Announcing Grace! Finally!

I'm very excited, I was alerted to Amazon and my book is there!!! (not out yet but is available for pre-order).

Now I can announce Grace, the children's book I finished in May/June of this year!!!!
Here's the cover (below) and on the right is a note from my wonderful editor at Holiday House.

Here's a bit about the story:
Grace's name may be a bit of a misnomer, for graceful she is not. She wants to be a ballerina, but dancing is not her forte. "Give it up, Grace, the other girls tell her."

Saddened, Grace turns to drawing—and when she does, she starts to feel better. Grace is good at drawing and the other girls love her artwork. Grace finds a way to be part of the ballet using her true talent.

But the indefatigable Grace also keeps dancing in this easy reader that encourages youngsters to celebrate their own special gifts.
(book details: Holiday House)

I both wrote and illustrated the book during a Children's Book Illustration class for my MFA studies at the University of Hartford. I also intended it to be part of a body of work for my final thesis.

The book dummy found it's way to Holiday House (publisher) and last autumn I was offered a contract!! How it found it's way to a publisher is another story for later, but I can tell you that it involves two very special prof's at the U of Hartford!

You can see the initial "book dummy" (the rough drawings) that were done for my MFA program in July 2013 in the photo with the note (above).

That's the very beginnings of Grace.

Yes I took the advice on the note and had fun!! And so throughout the long winter months and into the spring, I worked on the book, immersed in Photoshop and experimenting with pen and ink.

I will post more details later, for now I just wanted to announce Grace!
