Just back from an amazing week in San Francisco for my MFA program (University of Hartford). Lots of inspirational lectures and running amuck. I could show all sorts of photos (perhaps later) but would rather post some illustrations.
Every contact period we have a critique of an illustration, called a "reaction piece", inspired by our previous trip, in this case, New York City.
I LOVE seeing everyone's work!
So instead of photos of cable cars and such I want to show off a few illustrations done by my fabulous classmates.
Above is Alyssa Menold's work. Here is the link to her blog where she shows the roughs for the illustration. I love this piece- colours are wonderful and it's an imaginative depiction of the Pod Hotel where most of us stayed in NYC. Tiny but efficient rooms and she captured the pod ambiance really well!!! (love the square shaped cat!).
The illustration below on the left is by John Megahan. It's an acrylic painting of 5th Avenue at Central Park. Beautiful highlights and shadows.
I don't have enough space to show everyone's illustrations however will hopefully post more at another point in time.
Finally here's my illustration. It's inspired by the fire escapes of New York City which in turn reminded me of that old classic film, Breakfast at Tiffany's. And I'm keeping with my cat theme at least for now.
My next trip will be my graduation in Hartford so I am busy working on my thesis. My reaction piece will be of San Francisco (I have so many ideas, have to narrow it down!) and will once again look forward to seeing my classmates work!
I'm surrounded by so much talent!
